I wanted to create something without pretension, something simpler. After spending so much time and energy preparing a full CG animated series, building every part of the project on a computer, I felt the need to return to the simplest form of visual storytelling: just me, a small camera, and someone willing to be followed and share a bit of their life with me. That’s how The Emotional Tourist was born.

The same studio that supported me during the development of the CG series also had camera equipment I could use for this project. Everything started when a good friend from Chile visited me while I was living in Osaka. Since he’s an actor, it became the perfect excuse to begin making these pieces, which eventually grew into five episodes, plus a sixth one that is currently in the making.

No deadlines, no production pressure, no desire for awards, nothing fancy or grandiose. Very low-profile. Just pure fun and creative freedom. The editing style and music follow the same approach: flowing naturally from the ideas and personality of the person featured in each episode. The topics and original music were inspired directly by each person’s presence and story.

For me, this series became a way to create something outside the pressure of trying to “succeed”, whether that means making a product to sell or chasing the next filmmaking job. I genuinely enjoy this way of making films. This project has helped me relax, have fun, and stay creative through simple, human, narrative storytelling.
